We have worked with Dave Godfrey, at least for the past 10 years and he has helped us on many tricky, difficult problems within the welding field. We have every confidence in Dave, so much so, we have appointed him to act as Consultant, to this company, as Comprehensive Welding Coordinator.
David Lodge, Technical Director, CU Phosco Lighting
Dave is a qualified, knowledgeable and experienced welding expert and through his consultancy services has provided a tremendous technical resource and support to CU Phosco Lighting for the last 4 years as GWE and prior to that while working for the Welding Institute. Acting as Responsible Welding Engineer, he has written, implemented and managed our EN 1090 and BS EN 40 steel fabrication management systems as well as providing training on welding, weld inspection and NDT techniques. As necessary, Dave has travelled to site to meet our customers and presents a calm and professional approach, communicating well with both experts and customers. I can recommend Dave as a welding consultant without hesitation.
SIMON FRYER, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, BURO HAPPOLD
Godfrey Welding Engineering Ltd has provided us with expert advice in relation to weld procedures and testing as well as monitoring works on site. We have been very impressed by the professionalism and experience they have shown. As a result, we would not hesitate to use them again on future projects.
Robert j gunn, c.eng fimeche.p.eng, president, gunn nuclear inc.
I have known and worked with David Godfrey for about 10 years. During this time he was contracted to provide expert weld engineering support to multiple projects in North America and overseas. In all cases, David was required to advise and support efforts to develop solutions to unique welding challenges in nuclear environments. Most of the work was completed under significant schedule pressures driven by panned and unplanned shutdowns at commercial power stations and isotope production facilities.
Without exception, David provided complete dedication to each project and continuously offered sound impartial advice and strategies that always let to successful conclusions. His exceptional knowledge, both practical and theoretical, was a key factor in setting the technical direction for solving problems involving unusual materials in very difficult remote locations. When confronted with unusual client requests to perform remote weld repairs to nuclear components I would invariably consult with David before proposing solutions and he would typically be involved with initial client discussions.
David possessed the rare ability to both quickly understand a technical welding problem and clearly communicate his concerns and proposed solutions in a thorough and impartial manner that always instilled confidence in stake holders. He also possesses a strong understanding of the behaviour of materials under radiation and the special techniques required to weld them in remote confined spaces.
Finding competent welding engineers who have a solid theoretical understanding of the subject couple with a strong background of successfully applied practical solutions is becoming increasingly difficult. When confronted with difficult welding issues I would not move forward without his knowledge and support and I would not hesitate to recommend David to any nuclear facility faced with similar challenges.

Dr Mark G. Hudson CEng, technical authority welding and materials, BP
I have known Dave Godfrey since 1993, at which point in time we were both working for a welding consumable and equipment manufacturer in Hertfordshire (ESAB UK Ltd). From the outset, Dave's enthusiasm for welding and the fabrication industry were clearly evident, and played an important part in my own development in the field of welding engineering through site visits and general welding engineering tutelage. This proved an invaluable start to my career, and I know many have similarly benefitted over the years from his guidance and willingness to help.
Whilst our careers took different paths from 1999, I remained in contact with Dave during his time at The Welding Institute and latterly with his own consulting firm. Dave is an extremely personable individual, and has an excellent rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds, which given the diversity of individuals within the spectrum of fabrication industry, is a key attribute to 'getting the job done.'
Dave is a highly competent and respected individual within the welding engineering fraternity, with from a technical knowledge basis and a practical problem solving perspective. Due to his extensive exposure across all major industries involving welded fabrication, he has the capability, background knowledge and industry network to ensure the most appropriate solutions are found for the given situation. His excellent written and verbal communication skills ensure clarity of guidance to all who seek it.
Above all, Dave is an individual with extremely high integrity, and someone you can rely on to finish the job, particularly when challenges may arise along the way. In summary, I highly recommend Dave for any position or endeavour that he may seek to pursue. Dave will be a valuable asset for any organisation.

Michael Lloyd, FInstLM, MChMI Executive Project Manager COOEC Subsea Consortium, China Offshore Oil Engineering Company
‘The professionalism and in-depth welding knowledge shown by Mr. D. Godfrey (Dave) during the LuFeng LF7-2 Jacket Repair Project tender bidding stage in Q1 2014 played a pivotal role in COOEC Subsea's Consortium winning this contract against strong international competition.
The welding work included a series of above and below water welding sequences required to rectify the substantial structural damage caused during an unsuccessful offshore topside float-over attempt in 2013 last year. The welding was performed by pre-coded Chinese fabrication yard welders and Ex-patriot welder divers, operating underwater from inside two separate bespoke dry cofferdams offshore. The main subsea welding required on leg B4 at El-11m was considered to be the most unique repair of them all because it involved mending a substantial 2.8m long tear in the parent metal just above an existing circumferential weld on a main horizontal member adjoining the vertically opposed main leg. Due to the rareness and complexity of this weld defect it was decided by a panel of Chinese and Norwegian experts that an existing WPS could not be utilised and that a more specific WPS should be written. Dave devised and wrote this comprehensive WPS which enabled the weld to be successfully executed to the satisfaction of both DNV GL and CCS class certifying authorities.
Dave's practical hands on experience and methodical approach into solving welding issues offshore served the Consortium very well in helping us to complete this troublesome LuFeng LF7-2 jacket repair workscope in a timely manner before the typhoon season prevented such work from being possible.
For all the above reasons I would strongly recommend Dave to any employer or company wishing to undertake any such multifaceted welding work.
